When the clean beauty movement started I didn’t quite understand why deodorant was included in the category, mainly because I didn’t realize all the bad things that go into traditional deodorants. There’s much controversy over what long-term side effects are associated with ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and aluminum, from liver and kidney damage to various types of cancer. While I can’t speak to the health effects personally I wasn’t willing to keep trying my luck, so I have been on the hunt for the most natural and effective deodorant formulations and I’m here to share my findings!

Native Deodorant is my favorite out of all the good-for-you deodorants that I’ve tried, because it’s the least fussy and most effective. Native uses ingredients like Baking Soda (a mineral that helps keep odor-causing bacteria at bay) and Tapioca Starch (keeps your pits from drying out, while keeping you dry) as well as others packed with antioxidants and vitamins. Sounds like a dream, right? WAIT UNTIL YOU SMELL THEIR SCENTS. I love the Water Lily & Orchid and Lilac & White Tea scents, and have a mini of the Coconut & Vanilla in my handbag at all times. They even offer fun seasonal scents like Cactus Flower & Poppy, and Pumpkin Spice Latte! If you’re not into scented deodorant, fear not, they do offer an Unscented. And Native didn’t stop at deodorants – they have other good-for-you products like toothpaste and body wash too! I grab Native products from Target, but they’re also sold at other retailers like CVS and Walmart!

Myro is right up there with Native for me. One thing Myro brings to the table that most brands don’t is refillable packaging and recyclable refill pods. It’s also plant-powered, and has the most unique and gorgeous scents like Solar Flare and Cabin No. 5. My favorite it Pillow Talk, with notes of violet leaf, ylang ylang and wild amyris. Myro is effective at banishing smells, but I found that it melts QUICKLY if not stored in a constantly cool place, so if you take hot showers, don’t keep this in your bathroom. If you’re looking for an antiperspirant, this might not be for you, but if you don’t deal with perspiration or are just looking for an incredibly smelling deodorant that’s pro-Earth, grab one. You won’t regret it.

Lavanila has been around for quite some time, and for good reason. Their formula contains beta glucan technology, derived from the cell walls of oats and yeast, which minimizes and absorbs sweat molecules. HELLO science. I have been a long-time lover of the Vanilla Blackberry, and their newer scents have me wanting to click ‘Add to Cart’ right the heck now.

type:A comes in unique packaging: it’s a squeeze tube with a screw-on cap. Their instructions to “Just squeeze, swipe and take on your day.” seem almost too simple to be true, but I’m here to tell you, it’s that easy. type:A has a sweat-activated formula, so at the most critical times, you’re covered. They assign personalities to their scents, like The Maverick for Modern Spice, The Minimalist for Fragrance Free, and my favorite, The Dreamer for Floral Linen. This was another Target discovery for me, so on your next Target run, if you’re not getting Native or Myro deodorants, try out one of these!

Have you tried out any great natural deodorants that I should know about?!
